  • The UCSB Cycling team would like to invite the world to the third annual Towbes Group Island View Classic bike race and street fair presented by Firestone Walker Brewery in sunny Isla Vista, California on April 12, 2008. There is no other place on earth like Isla Vista sitting beside the Pacific Ocean and home to nearly some 20,000 UCSB college students and soon to be the host of the second annual Island View Classic. The race course will make a fast flat half-mile loop directly through the center of town and around the street fair, making for an extremely fun and exciting day of racing and entertainment.
This year's event promises to be bigger and better than last year's with improvements such as schedule that showcases collegiate cycling in the center of the day rather than early in the morning, and a pro race at the end of the day. A wider variety of events for the non-competitive cyclist have also been added. There will be a bicycle rodeo for kids and a cruiser race for everyone else. For those less interested in bicycles, there will be a street fair with a variety of vendors and a dunk tank to dunk your best friend or your favorite local celebrity. Come out and look forward to a live radio broadcast by KCSB 91.9 and many more promotional campaigns by local businesses and eateries. Hope to see you there! Anna Erickson Race Director, UCSB Cycling

    For Immediate Release:

The UC Santa Barbara Cycling team will be hosting the second annual Island View Classic on April 12th, 2008 in downtown Isla Vista. The Island View Classic will be a collegiate bike race in combination with amateur and professional bike races. Downtown Isla Vista will provide a great criterium course for local cyclists to race on.
For those not inclined to race at high speeds, there will be plenty else going on. We are going to spice it up with a public cruiser race. There will be a street fair on Pardall Road with attractions including a dunk tank and a ch ildren's bike rodeo, and companies such as Firestone Beer, KCSB 91.9 and all of your favorite Pardall Restaurants and Bars!
Come out, race your road bike, race your cruiser, or just sit back with some lunch and enjoy the racing. You'll be sure to see some dramatic racing with people as well as the frats and sororities battling it out in the team cruiser crit after a long night of partying.

    For Potential Sponsors

In addition to a great traditional criterium involving experienced bike racers on high-end bikes, there will also be a cruiser criterium. All UCSB fraternities and sororities will enter three-person teams in a 3-lap cruiser criterium. The cruiser criterium will be similar format to a traditional criterium but shorter and the competitors will be required to use cruisers only. The cruiser criterium entry fees will go toward funding the construction of the first Isla Vista skate park.

    Sponsorship Benefits

Visibility: All sponsor logos will be printed on our start/finish banner at a size proportional to their sponsorship. We will also happily display any other banners or posters provided by the sponsor to us around the racecourse. Race sponsors will also be posted on the race website that will be linked to the UCSB Cycling team website and several other high-traffic websites. If you wish to set up a booth for advertisement we will also provide each sponsor with a table, a pop-up tent and chairs.

Association: Few advertising opportunities will associate your company with such a large and positive event. This will be a memorable activity for the residents of Isla Vista. It will also benefit the development of the UCSB Cycling team and help fund the construction of one of the largest skate parks in the region. The IV Classic has been designed for the enjoyment of the whole family.

Everyone Wins: The UCSB Cycling Team gets closer to making the Island View Criterium a success With each new sponsorship. A successful Island View Classic will allow the UCSB Cycling Team to meet its goals of competing at the National Collegiate Cycling Association Finals for the second year in a row.
